Tapping “follow” or “subscribe” is requested everywhere these days, have you noticed? I lose track of accounts I have decided to “follow” and I find myself viewing content of people I hardly recognize anymore! The word “follow” seems to have taken on a new meaning with the rise of technology. Following an account is instantaneous with little to no personal commitment attached to the content creator. Small children play “Follow the Leader” and find enjoyment in the game until they want to be the leader themselves. When Jesus used the word “follow,” He did not imply to follow as long as it was fun or novel. It was a command to be committed and submissive, even when we are tempted to “unfollow” or wish to be the leader of our own lives
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. (Matthew 16:24)
If Jesus had a social media account today, how many real “followers” would he have? How many of His followers would read his blog posts?
In our busy distracting world where everything is shouting to “Look at me!” and “Follow me!” it is hard to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.
Because let’s face it, it’s way more entertaining to watch a video than read our Bible…yes, I wrote that “out loud” because it’s true! Meditating and treasuring what we cannot see and touch is a challenge in this age of the never-ending scroll of 60-second video content.
I get it!! I struggle with this battle just as much as everyone else, and I judge no one for loving a good scroll session. However, the Lord desired us to treasure Him and His Word more than scrolling recipes and the next great homemaking hack.
Aside from a personal quiet time with the Lord each day, seeing His Words framed on our wall can cause us to meditate on Christ, even when vacuuming.
Are you searching for Biblical art for your home or business? The Lord inspired me to create graphics encouraging Christians in their walk with Him.
